Things to consider:
- Must be on call 24/7 when you have a client.
- You may have to function on very little sleep at times.
- You may have to leave social functions or get up in the middle of the night for a laboring mom.
- You may miss important events like family holiday time, birthdays, or anniversaries.
- You may be at a birth for more than 24 hours.
- Your clients will call your house or cell phone at any time.
- You will need on call childcare if you have small children.
Being a doula is very rewarding and can be priceless at birth. It is a special moment to be accepted into a very intimate part of someone's life the mother will treasure forever. Mothers will usually remain in contact over the years and send pictures on special events.
