Things to consider:
- Must be on call 24/7 when you have a client.
- You may have to function on very little sleep at times.
- You may have to leave social functions or get up in the middle of the night for a laboring mom.
- You may miss important events like family holiday time, birthdays, or anniversaries.
- You may be at a birth for more than 24 hours.
- Your clients will call your house or cell phone at any time.
- You will need on call childcare if you have small children.
Being a doula is very rewarding and can be priceless at birth. It is a special moment to be accepted into a very private part of someone's life the mother will treasure forever. Mothers will usually remain in contact over the years and send pictures on special events.
If you think you may like this work you need no medical background we train lay people and you will learn every skill needed to provide this service and begin your business.
